This talk will cover some of the ground concepts you will need to complete the workshop "Intro to IoT using ESP8266, MQTT & NodeRed". The workshop was developed for IBM's Exite Camp, a program aimed to encourage high school girls to pursue careers in STEM. The workshop only requires basic computing skills, and takes you from nothing to being able to remote control devices and have them respond to remote sensors. The workshop instructions are here: https://infernoembedded.com/intro-iot-using-esp8266-mqtt-nodered There is some setup involved, so if you want to work through the workshop, I strongly recommend you read through the workshop documentation and complete the prerequisites before the conference. You will need to provide your own laptop to complete the workshop. Workshop hardware kits are available for $40 on the day, and include the ESP8266 module, a breadboard, cables, and a pile of sensor modules. Additional modules are available for $8 if you want multiple modules to play with.
