This talk will provide a basic introduction to some of the fundamental concepts around radio transmission and reception, starting from Ye Olde Analogue radio and working up to the modern intersection of radio and computers via Software Defined Radio. Some of the things I plan to cover are: * frequency, power and propagation * modulation methods * hardware radio vs software radio This will lead to the opportunity to do some software wrangling with RTL-SDR radio dongles on the Sunday so bring your laptop and bring your SDR dongle if you have one. If you don't, I will have a bunch with me on the day.
